Deaner's Tour Diary

It was kinda cool playing in an arena where the Sonics play basketball, I intentionally wrote up a really pompous, bombastic setlist in the hopes that people would hold lighters in the air while we played-----and they did. We were walking towards the stage getting ready to go on and Fiona Apple was standing there at the side of the stage. She's a lot shorter than I thought and it reminded me of looking at a baby deer somehow. I mean all this in a good way, I really got into her first record and we're all in agreement that she's a very sexy girl. Anyway, it did sorta fuck me up a little bit for the whole show, and I didn't see her anywhere around when we finished. Even weirder than this was the fact that David Lee Roth was in town playing on the same stage the next night and the promoter invited him to come sit in with us on "Hot For Teacher", and Dave allegedly told the guy that he was gonna try and make it. So the whole night I'm basically standing there playing wondering if Fiona Apple is diggin it and whether Diamond Dave is gonna come walking out at some point and hear us desecrate his tune. We played well regardless, so fuck those guys.
